Generations Program Director: Prospect House, Revere, MA
The Generations Director is responsible for planning and implementing a Generations program to encourage and stimulate memory impaired residents to have fuller and richer lives within a therapeutic and safe environment.
Trains and supervises aide staff and volunteers to work within the Generations area.
Responsibilities:
Oversees the Generations program by implementing philosophies and policies of the program and making sure all staff follows procedures, goals, and objectives for the program. Assures the program runs well 7 days per week, which may require shifting your scheduled hours to accommodate the needs of the program. Assures that the unit is clean, uncluttered and odor free.
Plans programs based on the residents' assessed needs, interests, and abilities. Encourages resident and resident family involvement in Generations program planning and posts the monthly and daily schedule of activities.
Implements a meaningful Generations program for all residents that includes the values of the S.T.A.R. Program, which means implementing creative, intellectual, physical, cultural, social, and spiritual programs each week that provide opportunities for participation in Community activities and opportunities for residents to be useful and positive. Participates in appropriate outings, and assures safety of residents on such outings.
Produces quality quarterly newsletter and monthly calendar of events on a timely basis. Posts the daily calendar each day by no later than 9 am, and orients staff to the days' activities.
Is aware of the needs of each resident, including knowing their Care Plan and Social History. Is able to help staff perform their individualized care plan by knowing what the individual issues are with each resident.
Documents the resident file with timely monthly progress reports as to participation in the activity program, as well as their overall non-medical behavior and adjustment to the program.
Communicates regularly with the families of Generations residents, on both a routine schedule, as well as when special circumstances arise.
Provides resources for the special interests of residents, whenever possible, as well as materials for independent activity.
Surveys customers periodically for input on programs and goals.
Establishes and maintains an effective dementia/memory impairment orientation and in servicing program so that all staff of the community are proficient in appropriately reacting to the needs of residents with memory impairment. Participates in training, supervising, evaluating and scheduling Generations staff and volunteers via daily assignment sheets. Also maintains adequate records on these matters and complies with government standards for documentation.
Participates in preparing the annual budget for the Generations Program.
Stays within budget guidelines on a monthly basis. Minimizes extra hours
and employs overtime only with the permission of the executive director.
Concerns him/herself with the safety of all Community residents in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents. Also ensures that the program adheres to the legal, safety, health, fire and sanitation codes by being familiar with his/her role in carrying out all EOEA regulations fro a special care unit, including fire, safety, and disaster plans and current MSDS.
Puts residents' service first. Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in caring and compassionate atmosphere and recognizes individuals' needs and rights.
Performs all other duties as requested.
Qualifications:
A minimum of college school degree or equivalent is required for this position.

- Order all supplies ensuring adequate levels of inventory while managing budget. Maintain accurate records of inventory, conduct monthly inventory.
- Develop reports and maintain records that are presented to Executive and Business Office Manager detailing departmental results including a monthly status report describing on-going projects and the preventive maintenance performed during the month.
- Troubleshoot problems to mechanical systems, identify corrective solutions, handle repairs in house, whenever possible to determine when appropriate to call outside contractors. Present solutions to the Executive Director with estimated cost for repairs.
- Respond to resident needs and requests.
- Develop and maintain a variety of logs documenting all work performed internally by department staff or outside vendors.
- Develop and maintain a written preventive maintenance procedure quarterly to review with Executive Director.
- Implement a preventive maintenance plan accordance with company policy and manufacturer instructions.
- Develop and maintain an emergency disaster plan. Assist in training all department heads and staff in emergency procedures relevant to their area of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain procedures to test and inspect emergency generators, fire suppression systems and fire alarms monthly. Provide reports to Executive Director.
- Maintain an up-to-date file, which is easily accessible, containing all operating and service manuals and warranty information, for both major and minor equipment; insurance certificates and service and construction contracts for ease of accessibility.
- Review all service contracts annually, secure and maintain two competitive bids on file.
- Manage the Department in accordance with the policies and procedures of the building and federal, state and local rules, codes and regulations.
- Assist with the operation and full functioning of the PERS system, including training new Directors.
- Respond to any emergency calls 24 hours per day.
- All other duties as required and consistent with the education and skills required for this position.
- All requests deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent certificate preferred.
- Additional training in management, preventative maintenance, equipment repair or similar areas are highly desirable.
- Previous experience in plant services is required, which included, heating, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems.
- Supervisory experience desirable.
