This session will take a look at the issues involved in providing SAMM services to residents with dementia, especially Alzheimer’s disease.  SAMM policies and procedure will be reviewed, as well as SAMM (re-)assessment processes for determining appropriateness for SAMM.  Staff training and how to manage PRN medications will be discussed.  The session will also cover tips for managing Insulin, Narcotics and Oxygen in assisted living.  Case examples and time for Questions and Answers will be incorporated into this always popular and thought provoking session.

Nancy Harper, R.N., BSN, CASP, Senior Resident Care Operator, Benchmark Assisted Living. Prior to being appointed Senior Resident Care Operator for Benchmark Assisted Living, Nancy Harper worked as an Executive Director and Regional Director for Benchmark Assisted Living since 1997.  Nancy has also worked as a nursing home administrator, clinical nurse instructor and acute care staff nurse.   She earned her BS in Nursing at St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford, CT.  Among her Accolades are the Excellence in Customer Care Award from Benchmark Assisted Living and a Community Service Award presented by AMHSA.  She is aboard member of the Greater Springfield Senior Services Area Agency ADVISORY Committee.
