IS YOUR RESIDENT "SAD" OR CLINICALLY DEPRESSED?
Janice Funk, PhD, clinical neuropsychologist has been brought back by popular demand! Funk will talk about late-life-depression being the single most commonly treated mental disorder. Funk’s presentation will explore how current diagnostic criteria may inflate the numbers of individuals diagnosed with clinical depression leading to overtreatment with antidepressant medications, especially in the elderly. Attendees will be able to list three side effects of treatment with antidepressants, define adjustment disorder, and will be better able to distinguish normal sadness from clinical depression.
IS HOARDING AFFECTING YOUR RESIDENT'S WELL-BEING?
Christiana Bratiotis, PhD, LICSW is a national and international consultant and author of a new book, The Hoarding Handbook-A Guide for Human Service Professionals. Her presentation, “Too Much Stuff: Understanding Hoarding Disorder” will discuss hoarding as a mental health problem that affects 5% of the American population. Bratiotis can help you understand the categorization, demographics, etiology, and mental health co-morbidities of the disorder and the interventions that can help you better serve residents who suffer from a hoarding disorder.
DO YOU HAVE A "BAD APPLE" EMPLOYEE
Jamie Resker is a recognized thought leader in the talent management field and is President of Employee Performance Solutions. Resker is also being brought back by popular demand. If you did not have a chance to hear her at Mass-ALFA’s Annual Conference and Trade Show–mark your calendars now! Feedback from those who attended her session was: “Not enough time,” “Needed to hear more,” and “Wanted the chance to use some of the tactics.” Resker has designed a new session, “Bad Apple Employee Behaviors.” This session will be interactive and use real work place situations provided by YOU. You will learn how to present feedback, identify the most common reactions to feedback, and learn techniques to control the outcomes of the conversation. Send your real life situation to jbernstein@massalfa.org to have Resker problem solve your issue during the session.
